Alexandra Sherman

Alexandra Sherman is a Russian-born Victorian and the 2006 winner of the Mietta Song Recital Award. She performed a range of difficult compositions featuring poetry, philosophical statements and contemplations in languages including French, German, Russian, English and Italian composed from 1750 to today.

Alexandra is a graduate of the Victorian College of Arts and the Royal College of Music in London. Alexandra is now based in London and has earned a reputation as one of the most gifted young performers working today. Alexandra performs widely in oratorio and recital in Europe, Australia and the UK with repertoire such as Bach Mass in B minor, St. John and St. Matthew Passions, Mendelssohn Elijah, Handel Messiah and Verdi Requiem.

Her concert highlights have included Mahler 2nd Symphony and Songs of a Wayfarer, Berlioz Les Nuits d'Ete, Elgar Sea Pictures, Prokofiev Alexander Nevsky, de Falla El Amor Brujo and Pergolesi Stabat Mater.

Alexandra has also taken to the stage and her roles to date include Pomona (Aeolo Calmato; Batignano), Guido (Flavio) and Irene (Muzio Scevola; London Handel Festival), Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos, Britten-Pears School), Third Lady (Magic Flute) and 3rd Wood Nymph (Rusalka; Opera North).

In 2005 she covered the roles of Juno and Ino (Semele) at Scottish Opera and the role of Minskwoman in Jonathan Dove's Flight at Glyndebourne. In 2006 Alexandra made her debut at ENO in John Adams' Nixon in China. Future performances include Malcolm (Donna del Lago) for Garsington Opera and Bradamante (Alcina) for Opera Australia.
